NDIS Installation Policies
When you’re working on a project for NDIS housing you must follow the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) Design Standards. This standard has 4 categories of SDA design:
- improved liveability
- robust
- fully accessible
- high physical support.
All NDIS related works are reviewed by an Accredited SDA Assessor, so it is vital you adhere to the following design standards. The latest edition of the Design Standard can be downloaded from https://www.ndis.gov.au
Improved Liveability
- At least one shower screen on the entry level or a level serviced by a lift.
- Shall be provided in a corner of the room.
- Must be hobless (i.e., no more than a 5mm difference in height into the shower area).
- Minimum of 900 x 900 internal space (i.e., wall to the inside of all parts of the shower screen).
- Is not within 1200 of the front of the toilet.
Robust
- All criteria from Improved Liveability
- All glass must be laminated. (Tempered glass cannot be substituted)
Fully Accessible
No shower screen, it must be a shower curtain.
High physical support
No shower screen, it must be a shower curtain.
